November 2020 Newsletter

Dear neighbors,

We should know the final results of the ANC 6A06 election after November 24. We are currently at 586 votes for Dooling, 513 for Robinson, 86 for Amons, and still counting. I am humbled with support but we must #CountEveryVote first. Please check by Friday 11/13 to make sure that your vote was counted and fix any issues:

Thank you!

Regardless of the final results, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of our supporters, volunteers, interpreters, donors, chalk artists, queer cat moms, and everyone who keeps up faith in politics. We advanced the ideas of housing as a human right, safe streets, and climate action. When I started this campaign, I sought not to win but spread these ideas and promote civic engagement and transparency to restore faith in politics.

I also enjoyed a socially distant outdoor dinner with Ms. Robinson earlier this week and several other outdoor chats with Mr. Amons. I look forward to all of us working together to improve this neighborhood regardless of who wins.

Recycling signs
I took down all 141 of the public Robb for ANC signs last week, but if you have one that I can pick up or see any more in the wild, please let me know

Regarding campaign sign litter in public space, DC requires all of these to be gone by 30 days after the election. If you still see signs out after December 3 or so, feel free to take them down yourself

ANC 6A news:

We were fortunate to have many competitive ANC elections this cycle: it shows a healthy level of civic engagement. Congratulations to current Commissioners Sondra Philips-Gilbert, Amber Gove, Phil Toomajian, Brian Alcorn, and Mike Soderman for winning re-election and congratulations to Keya Chatterjee and Laura Gentile who are currently ahead in the 6A01 and 6A05 elections. You can see a map of 6A here and full election results here (late-arriving mail votes are still being counted).

I am grateful to all neighbors who participated in these elections, vote for or vote against, win or lose, and contributed to our level of civic engagement. It was a pleasure to talk to volunteers, candidates, and everybody who stopped by outside of the early voting centers and outside of Miner Elementary School on election day.

The new commissioners will be sworn in during January.

You can join tonight’s full ANC 6A meeting at 7pm via https://anc6a.org/wp-content/uploads/ANCP1120.pdf

The agenda includes, among other items:

  • A potential public restroom at 8th & H St NE or 12th & H St NE
  • Voting for the ANC to send a letter on how DC government will support neighbors experiencing homelessness during the winter and pandemic
  • Voting for the ANC to send a letter to DC Public Schools expressing concern about the firing of school principals during the pandemic
  • A potential red-light camera at 9th & C St NE
  • Possibly reallocating parking spaces to enlarge the play area at Maury Elementary School
  • Discussing speed bumps on 18th St NE, Gales Pl NE, and Rosedale St NE

Leaf Collection:
See http://dpw.dc.gov/service/leaf-collection: we no longer need to put leaves in paper bags; we can simply rake them out to the curb or the tree box in front of our residences. DPW will then vacuum them.

  • If you live west of 14th St NE, rake your leaves out by this Sunday, 11/15, and DPW will vacuum them 11/16 through 11/21.
  • If you live east of 14th St NE, rake them out by 11/22 and DPW will vacuum them 11/23 through 11/28 (No collections on 11/26).

“Pick Up 2” for each of the above areas will occur in January during the weeks of 1/3 and 1/10, respectively.
